Unable to reach qtland servers on UDP ports
Question
I am trying to connect to a qtland server, but I received the error message "Connection timed out".
Answer
This issue stems from five main sources: account restrictions, connection issues, security software, background applications, and third-party anti-cheat applications.
Account Restrictions
IP Bans
The Steam accounts that have been IP banned can typically cause the game server to filter out your connection attempt. This would mean that no matter what you would do, the server won't allow you to connect. Typically, an IP ban is only given out to Steam accounts that are ban evading an outgoing concurrent ban, or have been abusing communication channels to spread malicious or illegal content.
Connection Issues
Router Problems
Routers can cause connectivity problems, especially Wireless routers. If you have a stand-alone router and have connection problems, you can bypass the Wireless router and plug your computer directly (Ethernet port) into your Wired router to see if the router is the problem.
If you determine that the router is the source of the issue, please follow the Using a Router guide.
Internet Connectivity Issues
Check the stability and reliability of your Internet connection. An unstable connection can cause connections to game servers to time out.
There are many online tools that help you to check for problems with your connection, here are two of the most popular ones:
https://www.speedtest.net
http://www.fast.comIf you suspect that you are having a problem related to your Internet Connection, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Background Applications
P2P, FTP and Web Server Applications
Don't run Peer-to-Peer (P2P) programs like BitTorrent, uTorrent, qBittorrent, Transmission, FrostWire, Vuze in the background. These programs can consume large portions of your bandwidth.
After exiting your Peer-to-peer software please relaunch TF2 before attempting to connect to a qtland game server. Once you have restarted you should be able to connect to qtland servers.
Viruses, spyware and malware, anonymous IP masking programs
Connection problems can also arise if your system is infected with a virus or spyware. We strongly recommend running virus checks while you are not using Steam if you suspect there is a virus or trojan on your system.
Programs like ProtonVPN, NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and many other VPN programs can also interfere with game server operations. Please disable these programs before connecting to a qtland server.
Third-party Anti-Cheat Applications
qtland game servers use the Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC). Using third-party anti-cheat applications isn't necessary and may result in the errors outlined above. Don't use third-party anti-cheat applications while playing on a qtland game server.
